Money Matters

Had CG last night- and I led the welcome game again, which was fun! =) played Fionne's "draw a picture that represents yourself" game.. Heh and it was very amusing trying to figure out all the super abstract drawings. =)

The topic was on managing money well. I always thought I was good at it but to my horror, I just checked my month's statement... About $17 left!!!! OMG. Money just slips through your fingers once u have a card. Sobs... Good thing I just received my tuition pay.. Yes so the discussion last night was timely! Praise the Lord. =) I'm going to start managing $$ well when I'm still young! Glad my cell also has a sizeable number of working adults, who share their experience and advice with us students.. Gonna start saving, investing and tithing 10% of my pay too, even though it's not much. He who can be trusted with little can be trusted with much. I aspire to be a good steward of money. Must learn from my dad! Also realised how blessed I am, not having to worry about paying back student loans or supporting family members.. yeah, so I'm grateful.. =) especially for the huge privilege of being able to study overseas..

My confirmation letter from UCAS has finally arrived.. yay yay yay I'm going to Nottingham! Can book my flight soon!

cheerful

Wow yesterday my family kicked into painting full swing.. heh 2 solid hours!! My arms and shoulders are aching soo badly now.. But still got more walls left! I love my beautiful wedgewood blue walls though. So soothing... gives me such a peaceful feeling. =) Like I'm staring at the sky on a clear summer day. And then there's the solitude walls painted by mummy, juxtaposed so nicely with the wedgewood blue.. =) I love my house now. Hahaha the massive 50-inch plasma TV is arriving tomorrow! Good thing the TV wall is done already.

Daddy bought me a camera too; Canon digital ixus i... in champagne! Love it!!!!! =) So yesterday was spent experimenting with it.. Heh heh took lotsa pics with my lovable Indon students, which I shall upload pretty soon! Also went around snapping my family members in action. Hehee Still learning how to upload though. Talked to Robin after tuition too; he's as hilarious as ever la!! My goodness.... All the people at the bus stop kept looking at me curiously, probably wondering who's that siao char bo giggling madly away. Hahahahaa

Walked home frm the mrt station as usual- And the same thought recurred.. What a pleasure it is, to be able to walk home at night! The surroundings seem so tranquil, set against the velvety night sky with the occasional star in sight.. And the gentle night breeze brushing back my hair. Makes me feel so alive. Ah well... that's something I can no longer enjoy in England! The most foolish thing I can do is walk back home by myself after sunset. Hehh..
Sunset or sunrise? Which do you enjoy more? I think I like the sunset more.. =) Its beauty is poignant.. besides, i wake up too late to see the sun rise!

I feel so refreshed after yesterday's swim... swam 40 laps! it was a small pool though, so should probably be about 20 in an Olympic-sized pool. I wanna exercise some more!! =) Blading! Cyling! Kayaking! Painting living rooms! hahaha who's up?

Ok have to go do the back-breaking work of manual labour now. =( at least it'll tone my arms. hahaha..

contentment

Had CG yesterday and Ephraim told us to share our thanksgivings for the week. Well, mine was being able to meet up with friends almost every day! :) Cheers to all my wonderful friends who have been making time for me! Met Minmin, rachael, grace in town(again).. And it was fun catching up with them and going into girly shops and sticking all sorts of accessories into our hair. And helping Grace and MM choose clothes! yeah MM u better wear your new skirt; i like it soo much. They're such sweet sweet girls- so precious in the eyes of the Lord. =) Haha Leroy joined us later for dinner... The future pilot! More handsome after his training... Hahaha ;) So sweet, they're gonna plan some fun outdoor activity for me before i leave.. hee

With friends, I find it so important to be able to be myself... And I guess this freedom comes when I know that they accept me as I am; gentle, shy, soft-spoken.. Sometimes I find it so hard to even accept these qualities of mine because people perceive it as a sign of weakness.. But Kor reminded me of Pastor Benny Ho's sermon during church camp- Gentleness/meekness is strength under control. Yeah :) So here's a resounding ha! to all the naysayers who always call me teh!

Also committing myself to pray for 10 minutes every day.. thanks to eph and xinxin, the prayer warrior for encouraging me! Indeed, one should build his/her house while the sun is still shining. My initial euphoria and enthusiam about studying in the UK are wearing down and as the date draws closer, (leaving 18 sep- less than 2 mths left here!) the realities of being on my own are becoming more apparent. I'm quite scared, I must admit... So I wanna draw even closer to God, now...

Okie gtg, Kor has to use my laptop... and i have to tell everyone how my wonderful Kor and Jamie, his future wife, changed their wedding date just for me! So that i can fly back in March for their wedding! :D Yay! I'm so happy!

Anybody wanna help me paint my house?? Hahaha =)

The City of Nottingham is famed for fine lace, the romance of Maid Marion and Robin Hood and as the birthplace of the founder of the Salvation Army, General William Booth (1829-1912).
The county of Nottinghamshire is situated in the central regions of England and is divided into eight districts. The city of Nottingham is the birthplace of D.H Lawrence, the famous author but is more famously known for the legends of Robin Hood and Sherwood Forrest, which was once a royal hunting forrest. Nottingham Old Market Square is the biggest market square in Britain and holds an annual Goose Fair, one of Europe's largest travelling fairs dating back to 1541 where you can experience everything from white-knuckle rides to Victorian side stalls. The oldest pub in England resides in Nottingham and dates back to 1189 AD. The Jerusalem Inn is so named as it was visited by the knights on their travels to the crusades in the Holy Land, Many of the interior rooms are caves carved from the rock.

ill post some pictures soon of nottingham soon :D the region and the university.

happy day

today's a happy day- went to watch pirates of the carribean with the usual VJ peeps. =) so funny i think weiwei and i were quite noisy throughout the show... anyway, surprisingly, the majority of us girls prefer orlando bloom to johnny depp! although he's quite boring, not the dashing elf hero he was in LOTR.. too clean-cut and goody in pirates i guess. still, he sure beats captain jack sparrow hands down. haha only hui likes him! and this hui ah... even more suaku than me. =) hoho better be careful during your SMU orientation!!! yes im so excited about impersonating fionnee.. hahaha i'll help her make friends! and distribute joshua harris' materials. heee poor weiwei u must be so worried that i will embarrass you.

also happy that FINALLY i will be able to watch a show at the esplanade. forbidden city!! yay!! thanks to li kai, the recalcitrant teaser who stays at st michael's road! telok kurau rocks ok. haha next up is the diving trip!

yes and i feel so relieved, cos at last, i think i see some light at the end of the long, tedious tunnel of university applications and changes. (my application actually got withdrawn from the UCAS system due to some misunderstanding with leeds. that's how screwed up it was.... ) so after swinging to and fro from leeds to nottingham, i am glad to say that i will be going to notts!!! for sure!! yay... they emailed me the good news today. =) so yes... tension and worrying over and i can start the next phrase of my preparations- booking my flight, making that visa, doing the medical checkup, getting insurance and start packing! yeahh... praise the Lord!

a tip to prospective students applying to the UK- Never change your mind after accepting an offer. It's awefully troublesome.

oh yes and i shall get a nottingham forest shirt/jersey specially for daddy; since it's his all-time favourite team.. u go forest! maybe when i come back, i'll be soccer-mad. hahaha how odd.... wad an oxymoron. soccer-mad me.

thanksgiving

Got this from an email kenneth sent me- by rick warren.

Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

"Give thanks always"!

I'm excited that James, my cousin is coming to my church tmr! :D

Went for some function with my mum today at carlton hotel and promptly fell asleep! hahaha.. the speaker was jus too monotonous and the air-con too nice and cooling that i couldn't help myself! yeah and slept really late last night calling n emailing leeds and nottingham. notts is very very efficient =) i sure hope to go there!

yesterday was a very fun and memorable day. created my blog in the morning, ^-^ den met michelle for lunch at katong (met my parents there, so qiao!) n we talked talked talked.. den headed down to east coast park where we sat on a grassy mound overlooking da sea and talked some more.. nice! saw tons of army guys having 2.4km run too. twas fun catching up with her :D

later i took a cab down to bugis ($8.90!!!) to meet eph and proceed to whampoa for community penetration with my church. which means going door to door to meet and greet the residents.. quite intimidating for me- i was a complete mouse. didn't know what to say.. and they mostly spoke chinese. still, it was quite cool observing how my grp members struck up conversations with the residents.. i need to pick up social skills!

so later met the CG for supper and thanks to them- the idea of crashing freshers' orientation is firmly stuck in my head. wheeee! singapore-style! UK's one is probably gonna be really boring. anyway, as i type this, i speak to fionne over MSN concurrrently. the grand plan- im gonna impersonate her for her hall's orientation, cos she'll be abroad! hoho weiwei i'll be with u! "helloooo i am fionne tan... i like to sleep all day... and i am very shy and demure". hahahaha... =D no lah jus kidding fionne i won't be so evil. hui let's go for yours too! august rite?
huimin u must come too!

okie gtg for chinatown dinner. daddy's in a good mood!
